Cake designer Carmen Emerson-Bass translated a sophisticated china pattern by Kate Spade into this extraordinary cake. Each fondant tier shimmers with the subtle blush of pale pink luster dust. Carmen cut mosaic shapes out of fondant to mimic the plate’s wing-imprinted edges, then painted gold dust in between for dimension. Fondant border bands were also painted gold. The focal point is a delicate dragonfly with tiny wings created out of gumpaste, then hand-tooled for authenticity. The sumptuous petals of the fantasy peony were sculpted of gumpaste and highlighted with pale yellow stamens and gold leaves.

There are literally hundreds of shades of pink, and each hue lends a certain sense of character. From subtle to bold, pink can convey a variety of styles.
