A Seaglass Inspired Wedding Reception
Christina Hassing of Pacific Aisles says, “I designed this wedding reception setting with the idea of a quiet sunrise union on a winter Hawaiian morning. Who says an intimate destination wedding can’t be as amazing as a large, traditional wedding?!” Standing gracefully at the end of an Oahu pier, this table’s modern style is in clever juxtaposition to the cozy scene, complete with a soft wool throw and a comfy wicker bench for two. The table is pure intimacy. Instead of typical favors, a gift exchange. In lieu of identical table settings, exact opposite arrangements symbolize the reflections of two soulmates.
A striking wedding bouquet of silver-blue succulents mixed with Star of Bethlehem and white anemones is highlighted with chandelier crystals, mimicking the serene Moli‘i Fish Pond at Kualoa Ranch. The little white dock is the perfect spot for a romantic dinner for two at sunset. The table glimmers with light cast from the sun reflecting off the surrounding water. Crystal teardrops dangle from above, showering the table in understated elegance.
Oahu florist, Yvonne Chapman, designed a succession of sleek square centerpieces with silvery succulents, Star of Bethlehem, amaryllis, bouvardia, calla lilies, and ranunculus. She tucked crystals among the petals to add sparkle.
Honolulu cake designer, Carmen Emerson-Bass, drew inspiration from handcrafted Japanese pottery to design a wedding cake in similar hues. Chocolate piping mimics the graphic painting of the pottery. Flowers sculpted out of gumpaste are dusted with moss green and dotted at the center with chocolate fondant. A brown satin ribbon encircles each tier for a look of contemporary elegance.
