A Wine Country Wedding at Gainey Vineyard

One of my favorite love stories from the Summer edition of Pacific Weddings was the wedding of Lorraine Kelley and Raymond Quon. If, as the saying goes, timing is everything, then Raymond can consider himself one fortunate guy. The weekend before his actual marriage proposal, he managed to fool his fiancée, by presenting her with a watch. Knowing she was anticipating a wedding ring when he took her to a romantic dinner at their favorite Italian restaurant, he successfully confused Lorraine by postponing his proposal until the following weekend. It was then that Ray welcomed her home after a long day with an immense bouquet of red roses. In the center was a large red heart made of construction paper which read simply, “I love you. Spend the rest of your life with me.” His timing really was impeccable. Their families had arranged to be in California the very next week to attend their graduation from UCLA medical school, at which time Ray planned to make the family introductions. One smart guy, don’t you think?! (Photography by Mi Belle)

Lorraine says, “We didn’t have many opportunities to travel together during medical school, so the Santa Ynez Valley became our favorite nearby getaway.” The fond memories they created together in Santa Barbara served as the impetus for selecting Gainey Vineyards as their wedding venue. “We chose to have the wedding at Gainey because we love their chardonnay and the vineyard is stunning!” exclaims Lorraine. Event designer Jill La Fleur left no detail to chance. Tables were bedecked with low wooden boxes of blush pink garden roses and lavish hydrangea flowers arranged by florist Camille Panzarello of Modern Day Design. While I loved all the rustic details mixed with the girly pink, it was the couple themselves that stole my heart. After exchanging vows originally written by Lorraine’s parents, their first act as man and wife was receiving communion together. “Our Christian faith has helped us through the trials of medical training and brought us closer as a couple. This was such a special way to begin our life together,” says Lorraine.

Congratulations, Michelle and Josh of Mi Belle Photography, you really captured the spirit of this event! xo ~robyn

What an amazing wine country wedding, with an even more amazing story behind it. These pictures make someone want to have their wedding in the wine country. For the best Wine Country Hotels, wine country weddings, events, meetings and more, take a look at the website below.

I love how the bride’s boutique just pops on her white dress! Great color and the photos are spectacular, a good photographer is essential at a wedding of this magnitude (or any magnitude!). I love the vineyards in Santa Barbara. I have personally never been to this specific vineyard but I bet it was spectacular for a wedding. I never thought of having a wedding at one, but I can see it would be great for a large party and endless amounts of possibilities when decorating! Santa Barbara weddings are my favorite though, so many possibilities when choosing a place to hold it and so forth. I travel there quite a bit for business and pleasure and I love staying at the Sandman Inn (www.thesandmaninn.com). Budget savvy and right downtown, close to several note worthy locations!
